The team at Shaw Landscape Group have been busy painting the grounds green at i98 FM’s Illawarra Convoy House in Wongawilli. With the help of many local tradies and suppliers generously donating their time, products and skills, ‘The House that Convoy Built’ is a unique fundraising activity for the Illawarra Community Foundation.
Convey House started with the idea of building a home for auctioning with 100% of the proceeds going towards the local Illawarra Community Foundation. The much needed funds help families in need who may be suffering financially due to a potentially life threatening illness, as well assist with the purchase of equipment for hospitals, medical research, and respite services. Scott Shaw, Founder and Creative Landscape Director of Shaw Landscape Group says “I grew up in the Gong, so to be able to support an incredible charity like The Illawarra Community Foundation and give back to our locals really means a lot. I feel privileged that our team is able to help make that happen.” Many hands make light work and despite lockdowns, over 100 trades jumped on board this year’s Convoy House project. “It’s great to see all of the local trades coming together and to see the end result is really rewarding” says Scott.
Of course, the landscaping wouldn’t be possible without the generous and dedicated assistance from our suppliers. Thanks to our friends at Berry Wholesale Nursery for donating the plants and IronBark Metal Design for all of the steel edging, retaining walls, sculptural features and letterbox. As always, Frank & Darryn Hezemans have helped out with the excavation and the team at Albion Park Landscaping Supplies have supplied the garden soil and turf underlay. Sir Walter Buffalo turf was also kindly donated thanks to the wonderful team at Turfco.
