From rags to riches. Bulli Anglican Church reached out to Shaw Landscape Group to makeover their untidy Church grounds as part of a government grant they had received. The brief was to create a usable, outdoor space for children and parents to enjoy.
Taking into account how to make the best use of the grounds and utilise the large feature tree, Shaw Landscape Group designed and installed a well considered outdoor play and parent friendly space.
For visual appeal, we implemented a small bridge overarching a circular dry river bed as part of a granite tricycle track. Paved paths, seating to hero the large feature tree and Australian bush inspired gardens help to create a usable and fun environment. To keep the kids entertained, a number of playful elements including a swing set, sandpit, hardwood cubby house, balance beam and a handmade chalkboard were installed.
The construction mainly consisted of recycled materials such as antique brick, Ekodeck zero maintenance timber made from recycled plastic bags and bottles, as well as natural hardwood. This commercial ‘playscape’ has been transformed into a well loved haven for kids to play in, and parents to gather.
